David Allen Storms OBITUARY
David Allen Storms passed from this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 14th. He is preceded in death by his parents Manley and Almeda Storms, older siblings Oscar Storms, Newton Storms, Pete Storms, Edward Storms, and Dolly Storms. He is survived by his wife Betty Storms, younger siblings Rae Williams (Virginia Beach, VA), Lib Spears (Indian Harbour Beach, FL), and Jerry Storms (Chesapeake, VA); children Kathy Myers (Poquoson VA), Sharon Childress (Atlanta, GA), Keith Storms (Wytheville, VA), along with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Dave was born in Bladenboro, NC and grew up with his eight siblings on the family farm near the Cape Fear River. Farm chores were the way of life, and he and his siblings learned the value of hard work.
After graduating from Tarheel High School, he moved to Norfolk, VA where he roomed with his older brother Edward and got a job as a stocking clerk with VEPCO. He later transferred to a position in Ahoskie, NC where he met his future wife, Janice. David was drafted into the Army in December of 1955, one month after he and Janice were married. While stationed at Fort Bragg, he would catch a ride with buddies or hitchhike to Ahoskie (160 miles) on weekends to see Janice.
When later stationed at Fort Eustice and then Fort Story, Dave and Janice settled in Norfolk where children Kathy, Sharon and Keith were born. While serving in the Army, he took night classes in business and sold insurance and real estate part-time to make ends meet. A few years later, the family moved to the “suburbs” of Western Branch area of Chesapeake where he took a position as Production Planner at the General Electric television plant in Suffolk.
Dave and Janice raised their family in Western Branch and were long time devoted members of Western Branch Baptist Church and later Churchland Baptist Church. After retiring from GE in 1987, Dave rekindled his enthusiasm for real estate eventually becoming one of the top selling agents for GSH and later for Towne Bank.
2014 was a low point with the death of his wife, Janice, of 59 years. But 2015 brought new hope when he began a relationship with Betty Klise, a close friend from Churchland Baptist. Dave and Betty were later married and have enjoyed a wonderful life together ever since. Above all, Dave most enjoyed time with his family. He always looked forward to family gatherings, and he remained close with his siblings throughout his life.
Dave was known for his gentle spirit, active mind, and quick sense of humor. His life was a testament to patience and kindness.
Funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, September 20th at 2:00 PM at Churchland Baptist Church, 3031 Churchland Blvd. Chesapeake, VA 23321. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Churchland Baptist Church. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel is handing services.
