Justin Robidas scored two goals and Ryan Foss and Thomas Caron had two assists each as the Norfolk Admirals downed the Fort Wayne Komets 5-2 in a penalty-filled ECHL game Friday night at Memorial Coliseum in Indiana.
The Admirals (15-9-2-1) snapped a three-game losing streak and moved within two points of North Division leader Adirondack (16-8-2-1).
The game featured 16 penalties, including four majors for fighting. Each team had eight penalties, but Fort Wayne had 30 penalty minutes compared to Norfolk’s 22.
Robidas tied team captain Mathieu Roy for the Admirals’ goals lead with 11 this season. His goals came back to back in the second period to put Norfolk ahead 5-1.
Stepan Timofeyev got the Admirals on the board just 1:37 into the game with his sixth goal of the season.
Danny Katic then scored a shorthanded goal with 4:57 left in the first to make it 2-0.
The Admirals scored their remaining three goals in the second period. Darick Louis-Jean made it 3-0 with his third goal of the season before Ture Linden broke through for Fort Wayne with a shorthanded goal with 8:43 left to make it 3-1.
Robidas then scored his two goals to give Norfolk a big cushion.
Simon Kubicek and Carson Golder each had an assist for the Admirals.
Norfolk will head east to West Virginia and play the Wheeling Nailers at 7:10 p.m. Saturday and 6:10 p.m. Sunday.
