Jackson Berezowski collected two goals and three assists and Tate Singleton had a hat trick as the Newfoundland Growlers defeated the Norfolk Admirals 7-4 on Wednesday night before 2,578 fans at Scope.
The Admirals (19-16-3-1), who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end, remain in second place in the ECHL North Conference’s East Division with 42 points. The Growlers (17-16-7-0) salvaged the finale of a four-game series and are one point behind Norfolk.
Newfoundland took advantage of Norfolk’s penalties, going 5 for 5 on power plays. Zach O’Brien scored the Growlers’ other two goals and added two assists.
Denis Smirnov, Kamerin Nault, Danny Katic and Brady Fleurent each scored a goal for the Admirals. It was Katic’s ninth of the season and Smirnov’s eighth. Fleurent’s goal came on a power play with 54 seconds left in the game.
Luke Cavallin picked up the victory in goal for Newfoundland with 39 saves.
The Admirals will visit Worcester for a two-game series Friday and Saturday and conclude the weekend at first-place Adirondack on Sunday.
