
Norfolk scored three unanswered goals and Oskari Salminen continued his strong play in goal as the Admirals beat the first-place Adirondack Thunder 3-1 in an ECHL North Division showdown Wednesday night before 2,420 at Scope.
Salminen (3-1), playing in his fourth game with the Admirals, saved 36 of 37 shots after making 19 saves on 20 shots in a victory Saturday night.
The Admirals have won three consecutive games, including a weekend sweep of South Carolina, and pulled closer to Adirondack in the standings. Second-place Norfolk improved to 30-19-3-1 (64 points) while dropping Adirondack, a New Jersey Devils affiliate, to 33-12-4-3 (73 points).
Denis Smimov, Connor Fedorek and Stepan Timofeyev scored for Norfolk.
Smimov’s first-period goal — his 10th of the season — tied it at 1. Fedorek scored in the second period on an assist from Josh McDougall, and Timofeyev scored the final goal on an assist from Carson Golder with 11:24 left.
The Admirals will be representing Chesapeake in City Series games when they host a weekend series against the Maine Mariners beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m.
