
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Virginia Tech added some depth to its quarterback room by landing UCLA’s Collin Schlee, a former three-star prospect, in the transfer portal.
The 6-3, 225-pound Ijamsville, Maryland, native played sparingly for the Bruins last season, completing 25 of 47 passes for 217 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 425 yards on 42 carries (10.1 per carry) and three scores.
Schlee played three seasons for Kent State before transferring to UCLA. He passed for 2,109 yards with 13 touchdowns and ran for 492 yards and four scores for the Golden Flashes in 2022.

CNU men, women in league finals
Brett Jackson scored four goals and added two assists to lead the No. 7 Christopher Newport men to a 19-12 victory over Stockton in a Coastal Lacrosse Conference Tournament semifinal Wednesday in Newport News.
Robby Adams and Drew Miller added three goals each for the No. 2 seed Captains (14-4), who will face No. 1 seed Salisbury in the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday in Salisbury, Maryland.
- Julia Iapicca scored four goals and had two assists as Christopher Newport’s women edged Mary Washington 13-12 in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal Wednesday in Newport News. The No. 2 seed Captains will visit No. 1 seed Salisbury in the title game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
- Old Dominion lacrosse player Emma Arnold has been selected to the All-AAC first team. She led the Monarchs with 33 goals and 41 points this season.
- William & Mary lacrosse player Paige Gilbert has made the All-CAA second team, while teammate Finley Hoffman is on the all-rookie team. Gilbert led the Tribe in goals (34) and points (37). Hoffman had 11 goals and two assists.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
W&M picks up its third transfer
William & Mary has added its third transfer since last season in Princeton guard Jack Scott, the school announced Wednesday.
The 6-6 Scott was a reserve for the Tigers last season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.2 rebounds and shooting 41.5% from the field in 12.2 minutes a game.
Scott, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, will have two years of eligibility remaining.
- Salem High guard Timothy James Jr. has committed to play basketball for Randolph College, he announced on social media. He was an all-region second-team selection last season.

Randolph-Macon upends CNU
Carter Schmitt hit a grand slam to spark a five-run sixth inning and No. 20 Randolph-Macon topped No. 10 Christopher Newport 8-4 Wednesday in Ashland.
Scott Crosson, Zach Dzarnowski and Lincoln Lubsen each had a hit and an RBI for the Captains (24-9).
UVA 8, VCU 4: Jacob Ference hit a three-run homer and UVA went deep four times in a victory in Richmond. Luke Hanson, Harrison Didawick and Henry Godbout each hit solo homers for the No. 11 Cavaliers (34-12). Godbout and Casey Saucke each went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run.
COLLEGE SAILING
ODU, CNU head to nationals
Old Dominion and Christopher Newport have earned bids to the College Sailing Women’s Fleet Race National Championships.
The event will be held May 20-23 in Boston.
The Monarchs are seeded 25th and the Captains 29th in the 36-team field.

- Christopher Newport’s Raine Weis has been named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year. She and teammate Tessa Trate also were the Doubles Team of the Year. The Captains’ David Weiner was Coach of the Year. Weis and Trate were first-team selections in both singles and doubles. Trate was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- Christopher Newport’s Vincent Truong has been chosen as the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year. He also made the all-conference singles first team along with teammate Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and joined Bhuvanesh Kumaresan on the doubles first team.
- Virginia Tech outfielder Cori McMillan has been named Softball America’s Player of the Month. The junior from Greensboro, North Carolina, hit .432 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in April.
- Virginia Tech’s Vlad Puchko has been selected as the ACC Men’s Field Performer and Rookie of the Week. The freshman from Belarus won the discus at the Drake Relays with a program-record mark of 61.9 meters. He ranks sixth in the country in the event this season.
- UVA’s Gary Martin has earned ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season. He helped the Cavaliers finish second in the 4xMile championship and third in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays.
