Chayce McDermott pitched most of the first combined no-hitter in the Norfolk Tides’ history as a Baltimore affiliate, a 2-0 triumph Friday night over Nashville before 7,133 at First Horizon Park in Tennessee.

McDermott (1-1) was perfect through six innings before walking two and departing after 6 2/3, having struck out a career-high 11. He lowered his season earned run average to 2.89.

Nolan Hoffman pitched 1 1/3 innings, striking out two, and Kaleb Ort threw a 1-2-3 ninth to complete the victory.

The Tides (16-15) have won seven consecutive games, their longest winning streak since July 18-25, 2018.

In the fourth inning, Coby Mayo reached base, went to second on Kyle Stowers’ double and scored on Daniel Johnson’s sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, the Tides went ahead 2-0 with three hits, including a 378-foot Jackson Holliday double that brought home Shayne Fontana.

It was the Tides’ first no-hitter of any kind since Chris Tillman’s against Gwinnett on April 28, 2010, and the third nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history. Norfolk has been an Orioles affiliate since 2007.

Sounds starter Chad Patrick (1-1) took the loss despite striking out nine and giving up just four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
