Virginia Beach hip-hop superstar Pharrell Williams has released a trailer for his new autobiographical Lego movie.
“Piece by Piece” tells the story of Williams’ development as an artist using animated Lego pieces.
The trailer shows a Lego, child-version of Williams walking down a street as his adult voice narrates the scene:
“When I was a kid, I knew I was different, and people would say, ‘Oh that’s an odd child.’ And that crushed my spirit.”
The Lego child frowns.
“But I loved music,” Williams narrates. “It mesmerized me.”
The little Lego’s face suddenly transitions into smiles as Daft Punk’s up-tempo 2013 hit “Get Lucky,” which featured Williams, starts to play.
As the trailer continues, a Lego-Williams is seen facing adversity, freestyling into a mic, skateboarding, singing with a rock band and playing video games to preview what appears to be a family-friendly, feel-good piece of animated cinema.
“Piece by Piece” is scheduled for theatrical release in October and features famous musicians voicing themselves as Lego characters including Timbaland, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes.
