A 20-year-old Williamsburg woman was hit and killed by a Jeep in Kill Devil Hills early Friday morning.
Police said the incident happened at 1:08 a.m. at U.S. 158 and Ocean Acres Drive, one of the busiest intersections on the Outer Banks, when the pedestrian ran in front of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler traveling south on U.S. 158 in the outside lane.
The victim, identified as Ashley Elizabeth Williams, ran eastward into the highway, “directly into the path” of the Jeep, Kill Devil Hills police said in a news release. She was not in the crosswalk at the time, said town police Lt. Julie A. Haner.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that neither speed nor alcohol were a factor on the part of the Jeep’s driver, a 43-year-old Kill Devil Hills woman, and no charges were filed, Haner said.
