
The July 4 holiday wouldn’t be complete without fireworks. Here are some events in Hampton Roads on Wednesday and Thursday. Events are subject to change.
Wednesday
Celebrate Freedom at Chesapeake City Park
Performances by Queen Copeland School of the Arts, U.S. Fleet Forces Band Wind Ensemble and the Red Stapler Duo. Food vendors will also be available. Pop-up tents, feather banners and oversized umbrellas are not permitted. Parking is $5 per vehicle on-site. Parking opens at 4 p.m., concessions at 5 and concerts at 6. Fireworks are at 9:30 p.m. 900 City Park Drive.

Hampton
Live entertainment, food vendors and a synchronized drone show that will light the sky. 5 to 10 p.m. Mill Point Park, 100 Eaton St.
Newport News: 4th of July Stars in the Sky
Food, live music, entertainers, giveaways and fireworks above the James River. Performances by Good Shot Judy, the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra and live painter Gerome Meminger. 6 to 9:15 p.m. Victory Landing Park, 50 26th St.
Norfolk
The 41st annual Great American Picnic & Fireworks. Hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue and other grilled treats. Live music including military brass bands. Fireworks over the Elizabeth River start at 9:30 p.m. 5 to 10 p.m. Town Point Park, 113 Waterside Drive.
Portsmouth
Beach music party on the Portsmouth waterfront. Food and beverages available for purchase. The Mighty Saints of Soul Band will play beach music from 5 to 8 p.m.; then the Tidewater Concert Band plays patriotic music from 8 to 9:30. 2 High St.
Independence Day Jam outdoor concert: 8 p.m. Rivers Casino Portsmouth, behind Admiral’s Steak & Seafood, 3630 Victory Blvd. 757-840-2278. Free; seating is limited, first-come, first-served.
Suffolk: Stars and Stripes Spectacular
A kids’ area, music by the Feenies, and food trucks. Fireworks at 9 p.m. above the Nansemond River. 6 to 9 p.m. Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina, 110 E. Constance Road. Shuttles from First Baptist Church and Godwin Courthouse.
Virginia Beach
There will be live music and events at the Oceanfront that will culminate in a fireworks show, according to the city. Shows will be featured at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and Neptune’s Park on 31st Street from 7-11 p.m. Fireworks will be at 9:30 from a barge in the ocean and can be viewed from anywhere along the beach, the city says.
The city will also host a fireworks celebration at Mount Trashmore, with food trucks and live music. Parking is $20, but admission is free. Events begin at 8 p.m., and fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Parking lots will close when full, and Edwin Drive will close when lots are full.
Williamsburg
Colonial Williamsburg is known for its July 4 commemorations, including public readings of the Declaration of Independence, interactive activities with historic interpreters and a “Lights of Freedom” fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. above the Governor’s Palace. Yorktown: 45th Independence Day Celebration
The day has several events, including 8 and 5K races, a parade and evening fireworks.
The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will have special programming, and admission is free for residents of York and James City counties and Williamsburg. Note: All-day street traffic blockades include Zweybrucken Road, Comte de Grasse Street, and a portion of Water, Ambler and Main streets (from Zweybrucken to Ballard). The beach picnic area will be closed to vehicles and open only to pedestrians. Church, Nelson, Smith and Bacon streets will be restricted to residents only. Colonial Parkway leading into Yorktown is closed for maintenance.
