Brand new fishing poles wait for the kids before the start of the Rodgers Family Kids Fishing Day on Lynnhaven Fishing Pier on Aug. 3, 2016, in Virginia Beach. The Fishing Day, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, brings about 200 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Virginia to the pier for a morning of fishing. About 130 volunteers help with the program that provides the fishing poles, T-shirts and lunch for the kids. 
Letter writers push for a fishing pier at First Landing State Park, point out that America has a history of assassinations, and argue "thoughts and prayers" should be given to former President Donald Trump and then we should move on per usual.
