JAMES CITY — Police charged a 21-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last month.

The incident took place outdoors near the Howard Johnson hotel in the 6400 block of Richmond Road about 11 a.m. on April 22, according to a news release. The alleged victim is not believed to have known her assailant, said James City County police spokesman Tayleb Brooks. No further details were released.

Nijhad “Jhad” Johnson was arrested Thursday in Chesapeake and charged with object sexual penetration and abduction, police said. He is being held without bond in the Chesapeake City Jail.

Johnson’s last known address is 1979 Greenleaf Drive in Norfolk, police said.
